Frequently asked questions
How much do I need in retirement?
A common rule of thumb is 70–80 % of your last net income, because work-related costs fall away. Rent and health costs can push it higher.
Where do I find my expected pension?
In the annual Renteninformation from the Deutsche Rentenversicherung (from age 27). It shows gross amounts – health and care insurance and tax still have to be deducted.
How can I close the gap?
Through private saving (e.g. ETF savings plans), company pensions, the Riester or other subsidised products, or by working longer. Starting early matters most.
