Frequently asked questions
Why does my net pay fall less than my hours?
Because of the progressive income tax: with a lower salary the average tax rate falls, so you keep a larger share of each euro.
Do I have a right to part-time work?
Yes, in companies with more than 15 employees after 6 months of employment (§ 8 TzBfG), unless operational reasons stand against it. Request it in writing at least 3 months in advance.
How does part-time affect my pension?
Pension points depend on your gross pay, so fewer hours mean fewer points. Our retirement-age and pension-net calculators help with planning.
