Frequently asked questions
When do I have to cancel my car insurance for 1 January 2027?
For a calendar-year policy the cancellation must reach the insurer by Monday, 30 November 2026 – one month before the end of the insurance year.
Can I still switch after 30 November?
Yes, if your insurer raises the premium without improving cover (§ 40 VVG) or after a settled claim (§ 111 VVG) – in both cases within one month.
What happens to the insurance when I buy a used car?
The seller's policy passes to you (§ 95 VVG). You and the insurer can cancel within one month of the purchase; it ends automatically as soon as you insure the car with your own insurer.
