Frequently asked questions

Is MD5 secure?

No, MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes (collisions are possible). They are still used for simple checksums. Use SHA-256 or better for anything security-related.

Can I hash passwords with this?

Not for storing them – passwords need slow, salted algorithms like Argon2 or bcrypt. A plain hash is not enough.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Hashing uses the browser's Web Crypto API (and a local MD5 implementation); the file is read only on your device.
